ZIEP has abundant land resources, oil, natural gas, geothermal, sea salt, sea resources and water, comprising 268 km2 state-owned land and a large scale of saline-alkali land designated specifically for economic activity use. With the most extensive network of chemical industry infrastructure, it is host to several large companies in the salt chemical and petrochemical industries, coal processing, synthetics and storage industries. It is also the home to three of the nation’s largest steel companies, building materials, machinery manufacturing as well as multiple commercial logistics enterprises.
Land
The Park’s distinctively flat topography typical of the region’s low coastal plains is ideally suitable for large-scale industrial and commercial development. The soil type is predominantly classified as clay soil; with salt content 0.06%-0.18%, and organic matter 0.8%-2.0%. Ground water is located between -320 and -600 meters below the surface and the water PH value of average 7.8 strata bearing capacity of 70-140 kpa.
Oil and Gas
Tianjin Dagang Oilfield is operating on the territory of ZIEP, with oil reserves of 1.45 billion tons and natural gas reserves of 4 billion m3, as well as the CNOOC Bohai Oil Field offshore installation, with total oil and gas reserves of 1 billion barrels (BOE) and 4800 barrels/ day of crude oil.
Salt Deposits
ZIEP is host to one of China’s three biggest industrial salt exploitation sites, with an annual output in excess of 2 million tons, and also providing large quantities of raw materials for the salt-chemical industry.
Renewable Energy
Geothermal reserves are found at the depth of 1500-2000 meters underground, with a bulk of 507.048 × 108 M3 and outlet temperature ranging between 60-80°C. With 33 newly-constructed land and offshore wind turbines, and a further RMB 1.5 billion (US$ 220 million) investment to expand wind energy, ZIEP’s territory has great potential to renewable energy programs. More recently, several solar energy farms have been erected, benefiting from the Park’s more than 200 clear sunny days annually.
Biodiversity
ZIEP is pleased to share some of the China’s breathtaking landscapes of its prime cost and its vast pristine lands. It contains two large wetlands – the Haixing and South Daguang - consisting of lagoon pools and grove shallow pools, ninety-percent of which is still covered by indigenous grasses, reeds and wetland plant life.
ZIEP is also the connecting point for the north-south movement of migratory birds, of over 170 species of birds in the park.
The Park has rich marine fishery resources, highly suitable for the fish processing industry, and with more than 1,000 species of native marine life, notably shrimp and portunus. The region is also ideal for fruit growing, with large jujube and watermelon plantations.
Climate
ZIEP has a temperate continental climate with four distinct seasons, an average of 600mm annual rainfall, and 206 days without frost. Average temperature is 12.1°C, at its lowest in January (-4.6°C), and its hottest in July (26.8°C). The average annual wind speed is 4.2m/second, predominantly northwesterly in winter, and southwesterly in summer, and wind pressure for infrastructure is 35 ha/m2.
